2 Surgut is the best city! Hi, my name is Liza. I’m twelve years old. I live in Surgut, the most beautiful and the oldest city in the heart of Khanty - М ansiysk Autonomous Area- Yugra . It’s in my heart as well. I’ve been living here since I remember. Surgut is on the right bank of the Ob River. And a cable-stayed bridge across it is one of the longest in Siberia (2,070 ) meters.

The climate and nature Climatic conditions of the area is equated to the Far North. The climate is continental. Winters are cold and long, summers are not hot at all. Snow covers the ground from October till March. But for me it looks nice all year round. 3

The population 4 The city was founded near the settlement of Khanty tribe. Khanty and Mansi are considered to be the original inhabitants of Khanty - Mansisk area . The occupations of the local residents were fishing, hunting for fur animals and game. They were engaged by manufacture of hides and skins, work piece pine, picking up berries and mushrooms.

The origin of the city name 5 Even the name of the city, according to one version, comes from the words of the khanty “ sor " (fish) and " kut " (pit). On the other version , it’s translated from the khanty "Surgut" - " fishing place“.

The secret of hospitability 6 We should be thankful to these people for using and living on their natural habitats. Nowadays Surgut is a multinational city, people from everywhere come to live and work in this hospitable place.

The history of foundation 7 It was founded in 1594 by order of Tsar Feodor I to the governor Feodor Baryatynsky and the head of settelment Vladimir Onichkov about the construction of “Hail of Surgut" . Surgut was "founded by three people" magistrates, a merchant and a hunter. Today, on the main street of the city-Lenin street, is a monument to the founders of the city, which in addition to the governors, merchants and Cossacks, there is a fourth figure - a priest - a fictional figure. It’s my favorite monuments of all.

8 Surgut was born twice. The first birth took place under the ringing of axes of our ancestors, and the second was accompanied by powerful roar of oil gushers.

9 Modern Surgut Today Surgut is one of the largest cultural and industrial centers of the Tyumen region. Surgut is a strategically important center for the oil and gas industry of the Russian Federation. And I’m proud of this fact and being a part of this city.

My lifestyle 10 I study at the best school of our city, and I’m sure that I have a chance to get good education. Our teachers are well-qualified, intelligent and strict. I’m a diligent pupil. Together with my classmates and class teacher we visit museums, libraries, go on excursions around the city. And there’s a lot to see, believe me.

In my spare time I like relaxing and having fun with my family or friends. We go to the theatre, ride on the carousel, or just hang out at the shopping centers. There are some new and modern malls in the city for people to spend all days there and enjoy shopping. 11

12 What is more, in the summer, I like roller-skating, in the winter, I can go ice-skating. We have perfect parks and massive ice rinks in Surgut, also different attractions for all tastes.
