FossaСлайд 2
One of the rarest animal is Fossa - the largest predatory mammal that inhabits the island of Madagascar.
Слайд 3
The appearance of Fossa is a little bit unusual : it's something between a wyverra and a small puma. Sometimes Fosses are also called the Madagascar lion, since the ancestors of this animal were much larger and reached the size of a lion.
Слайд 4
Fossa has a massive and slightly elongated trunk, whose length can reach up to 80 cm (on average it is 65-70 cm). The paws of the fossa are long, but rather thick, with the hind legs higher than the forelegs. Fossa Lion
Слайд 5
The tail is often equal to the length of the body and reaches 65 cm.
Слайд 6
Fosses eat small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects. They often attack lemurs and rabbits. The captured animal Fossa kills, holding its front paws and biting the back of the head and sometimes kills more animals than it can eat. These fosses are often ravaging the chicken coops and that’s why they have gained a bad reputation among the local people.
Слайд 7
Cubs of fossa are born after a three-month pregnancy - in December-January. Unlike other Madagascar predators, the female fossa gives birth to 2-4 cubs (the rest - only one). At birth, the newborn Fossa weights about 100 g; it is helpless, blind and toothless .
