It will never forget…
The Stalin’s repression has left an indelible mark in the history of our country. It was a hard ruthless time. In the memory of people still have pictures of that cruel period. We were able to talk with one of the victims of political repression, the inhabitant of Ust-Barguzin - Euphrosynia Nikolaevna Polonova
- Euphrosynia Nikolaevna, please, tells us the story of your life.
- I was born in Ubur – Kiret, Kyakhtinsky region. I was very young, as the other children in the family. Thousands of people suffered, they were sent into exile, to prison, picked up children, they’re forced to leave their home. At first they took my father, then mother. Both parents worked on the farm, worked hard. Once again, in 1933, after the working day dad was sitting at the table and ate, two persons came in and didn`t really explained, took him and I`ve never seen him again. Later it became known that my father was shooted.
- What happened with you and your mother?
- After dad I left my mother. She was repeatedly invited to interrogations with charges of violation of the borders of Mongolia, but she answered negatively on all questions. And she really doesn't violate the boundaries! But government officials don`t tried to figure out where the truth and the lie and sent her into exile. To the destination had to walk and in the winter had been especially hard. People ate frozen food, in all possible ways tried to warm up for to stay alive and healthy. We had a lot of work. We lived in the barracks. We are the children of that generation, very hardened to the way of life.
- How did you get home?
- After a while the mother escaped from the imprisonment, took us, children, and we went back to Ubur-Kiret. The path has been very difficult. In the village that were in our way, asked for a piece of bread. The people who lived in those places helped us if they could, seeing our plight. Once mother almost sacrificed her life for us. She was found, wanted to shoot. Mum tried to protect us, saved from certain death. In 1936 when we were in our native village, she received a notification of rehabilitation. The time of Stalin's repressions I will never forget. And you, young people, remember about their country's history, don`t repeat such terrible mistakes in the future!
- Thank you, Euphrosynia Nikolaevna for the interview. We wish you long life, good health for you and your family!
Euphrosynia Nikolaevna Polonova is 88 years old. She has six children and seventeen grandchildren. She was awarded the jubilee medals, the medal "For valiant labor in the great Patriotic war 1941-1945", as well as various diplomas and gifts.
