The human brain is hardwired to distinguish music from noise and to respond to rhythm and repetition, tones, and tunes. The auditory nerve transmits the electrical signals of music and other sounds to the auditory cortex in the temporal lobe. Studies using magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography scans suggest that nerve networks in different parts of the brain bear primary responsibility for decoding and interpreting different properties of music. auditory cortex
Слайд 5
For example, a small area in the right temporal lobe is essential to perceive pitch , which forms the basis of melody (patterns of pitch over time), chords (multiple pitches that sound at the same time), and harmony (2 or more melodies at the same time). Another nearby center is responsible for decoding timbre , the quality that allows the brain to distinguish between different instruments that are playing the same note. The cerebellum processes rhythm, and the frontal lobes interpret the emotional content of music. And music that's powerful enough to be “spine tingling” can light up the brain's reward center, much like pleasurable stimuli ranging from alcohol to chocolate.

Brainwaves At the root of all our thoughts, emotions and behaviours is the communication between neurons within our brains. Brainwaves are produced by synchronised electrical pulses from masses of neurons communicating with each other. It is a handy analogy to think of Brainwaves as musical notes - the low frequency waves are like a deeply penetrating drum beat, while the higher frequency brainwaves are more like a subtle high pitched flute. Like a symphony, the higher and lower frequencies link and cohere with each other through harmonics.

Brain Waves Breathing and Heart Rate State of Mind Other Benefits Research has shown that music has a profound effect on your body and psyche.
Слайд 9
Brain Waves: Research has shown that music with a strong beat can stimulate brainwaves to resonate in sync with the beat, with faster beats bringing sharper concentration and more alert thinking, and a slower tempo promoting a calm, meditative state . Also, research has found that the change in brainwave activity levels that music can bring can also enable the brain to shift speeds more easily on its own as needed, which means that music can bring lasting benefits to your state of mind, even after you’ve stopped listening.

Binaural Beats Binaural Beats were discovered in 1839 by Heinrich Wilhelm Dove, and earned greater public awareness in the late 20th century based on claims that binaural beats help induce relaxation, meditation, creativity and other desirable mental states. The effect on the brainwaves depends on the difference in frequencies of each tone, for example, if 300 Hz was played in one ear and 310 in the other, then the Binaural beat would have a frequency of 10 Hz.
Слайд 11
Breathing and Heart Rate: With alterations in brainwaves comes changes in other bodily functions. Those governed by the autonomic nervous system , such as breathing and heart rate can also be altered by the changes music can bring. This can mean slower breathing, slower heart rate , and an activation of the relaxation response , among other things. This is why music and music therapy can help counteract or prevent the damaging effects of chronic stress , greatly promoting not only relaxation, but health .

Other Benefits: State of Mind: Music can also be used to bring a more positive state of mind , helping to keep depression and anxiety at bay. This can help prevent the stress response from wreaking havoc on the body, and can help keep creativity and optimism levels higher, bringing many other benefits . Music has also been found to bring many other benefits , such as lowering blood pressure (which can also reduce the risk of stroke and other health problems over time), boost immunity, ease muscle tension, and more. With so many benefits and such profound physical effects, it’s no surprise that so many are seeing music as an important tool to help the body in staying (or becoming) healthy.

Thus, the results of foreign researches have shown that music therapy is a growing trend in medicine. Music therapy helps patients to cope with stress, to normalize the heart rate,to reduce the risk of developing hypertension, withdraw from depression; boost immunity, ease pain. To conduct research in this area is to confirm the results of researches abroad and find new treatments for various diseases. С onclusion :
