Ascension Cathedral

The Ascension Cathedral is located in the historical part of the city. The church was erected in 1889 on the site of an old building - the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, dated 1745.

The cathedral was laid in 1845. The project was approved by Nicholas 1 himself, and the laying of the first stone was accompanied by the sound of bells of other churches. The construction lasted until 1890. The architecture of the temple has elements of eclectic style.

The first draft of the cathedral was developed in 1824. The a rchitector was Konstantin Andreevich Ton (1794-1881). T he Grand Kremlin Palace, the Armory Chamber of the Moscow Kremlin, the station buildings in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the famous Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow were also built by K . Ton.
