B eautiful city St. Petersburg is often called Russian capital of culture, northern Venice. It is the second largest city in Russia. Few world cities can boast of so many sights, museums, opera houses and drama theatres, tofts and palaces, parks and monuments.

Bridges in Saint Petersburg St. Petersburg is also the city of bridges. 68 rivers, channels and lades cross the city in different directions forming 42 islands on its territory. Now there are 580 bridges including 20 drawbridges in St. Petersburg and its suburbs.

White nights Without the slightest doubt, “white nights” are the most popular time for tourists to visit St. Petersburg. A lot of festivals and excursions are conducted in the city through this period.

Peter and Paul fortress The St. Peter and Paul Fortress is located on the Hare Island. The foundation stone was laid by Peter the Great in Mai 1703. The fortress was always used only as political prison and never had any importance for military purposes. Such famous people as Gorky, Chernyshevsky , Dostoyevsky were also imprisoned in the Peter and Paul Fortress.

The Hermitage The Hermitage is one of the most interesting museums in St. Petersburg. It occupies six buildings. The largest and the most important building designed by Rastrelli is the Winter Palace. The St. Petersburger Hermitage has 365 rooms and more than 2.7 million various exhibits. It is the largest art museum in our country and one of the most famous art museums in the whole world.

Peterhof Anyone who hears the word “ Peterhof ” immediately associates it with fountains. These fountains are located in the Lower and Higher Parks of the palace and park ensemble of Peterhof . Experts say that the scale of the fountains of Peterhof exceed the scale of the fountains of the French Versailles. The Lower Park complex has more than 150 fountains and 4 cascades, and in the Upper Garden fountains there are only 5 fountains and one cascade. The most famous fountains are “The Grand Cascade” and “Samson Fountain”.

The beauty of the Hermitage Today, the Hermitage is a complex museum. Its main exhibition is located in five buildings situated in the center of St. Petersburg along the Neva river. The main building of the complex is the Winter Palace.
