В рамках Недели английского языка, проходящей ежегодно в нашей школе, обучающиеся 9 и 10 классов разыгрывали отрывки из произведений О. Уайльда и Джерома К. Джерома. Данное мероприятие получилось очень весёлым и познавательным. Перед началом мини - спектакля, всем присутствующим была показана презентация, в которой сжато, но информативно, обучающаяся 10 физико - математического класса Васильева Валерия рассказала о писателях - классиках.

About George Bernard Shaw George Bernard Show was born in Dublin (Ireland) on the 26 th of July , in 1856. At the age of 21 he came to live in London and his first five novels were rejected by London publishers . But all of them became well when Sh a w became a famous playwright.

A writing machine. In his own words, Shaw said he was a writing machine. He has written 65 plays and many pamphlets. He wrote on such subject as Drama, Women and Feminism, Music, Marriage and so on.

Radio Speaker. Apart from writing, Shaw loved to speak on the radio. What the audience perceived as a joke, Shaw actually meant. He used comedy as a way of translating what he thought about society and it worked.

A great respect for woman. Shaw had a great respect for woman. He spoke up for the Suffragette movement in Parliament and the prison movement. Actresses begged him to write plays for them.

The lights of Broadway. Throughout Shaw’s long life, famous actors, presidents, prime ministers, scientists, royalty, lords and ladies requested Shaw at the dinner tables. At the age of 94 Bernard Shaw died on the 2 nd of November in 1950. It was the 1 st time the lights of Broadway went out as a mark of respect.

Jerome K. Jerome In the history of English literature Jerome K. Jerome occupies a modest place. He cannot be compared with Dickens, Thackeray, or Bernard Shaw, but he is well known as a writer-humorist not only in his country but in another countries too.

Jerome's childhood was poor and sad. Jerome Klapka Jerome was born in England on May 2, 1859 into the family of ruined businessman . He could not finish school because his father died in 1871 and the boy had to begin working to support his family. First he worked as a clerk. Later he took up teaching journalism and acting. For three years he was an actor and had to play different parts.

The Globe theatre in London in 1886. He had very little money and often went hungry and had no place to sleep . In his free moments Jerome tried to write. He wrote plays, stories and articles, but nothing was published . His first literary success was a one-act comedy which was performed in the Globe theatre in London in 1886.

In 1889 a collection of his articles was published. The Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow and Three Men in a Boat made the author famous. The books were translated into many European languages . In the following years Jerome published several books and plays. He went travelling all over Europe and in 1899 he visited St. Petersburg, where he was met with enthusiasm. He knew Russian literature very well.

Jerome K. Jerome also wrote serious books. He criticized German imperialism and the policy of Britain in China. Jerome's last book was his autobiography My Life and Time. He died in 1927. The works of Jerome are full of humour and they can't but amuse the reader. In 1889 Jerome's best book Three Men in a Boat came out.
