Why Cottesmore? Cottesmore has been praised highly in its last three inspections. In the ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) report there were an unprecedented seventeen counts of ‘outstanding’.

Cottesmore School was founded by Geoffrey Davidson-Brown on September 3rd 1894. He named the school after the Cottesmore Hunt in Rutland, where he grew up. Buchan Hill, the home of Cottesmore, stands just outside the hamlet of Pease Pottage which lies halfway between London and Brighton. Pease Pottage has been a travellers rest stop for centuries, as it remains today with its Marks and Spencers Food and a complement of pubs.

Drama enjoys an enthusiastic following and is a vibrant part of their annual Arts Week Drama gives children an opportunity to combine acting with song and dance. They have a number of productions which take place throughout the school year as well as their highly successful Arts Week, in which they explore and perform as many forms of art as possible in one week

At Cottesmore they provide an exceptionally wide range of sports: football, rugby, hockey, cricket, tennis, squash, athletics, swimming, judo, golf, cross country running, basketball and shooting. Included in their sports facilities is a superb indoor heated swimming pool. All the children learn to swim to a very high standard, the best competing nationally each year. Children also compete nationally in Tennis, Netball, Golf, Athletics and Shooting. Parents are always welcome to come and cheer the teams at home matches, which take place at least once a week, and to stay to tea afterwards.

Cottesmore has a pre-preparatory department for girls and boys between the ages of 4 to 8 years. It was founded in 2009 with just 10 pupils and is now full at 45 children.

The most gifted and talented pupils are the potential ‘scholars’ of the school. They keep in close touch and nurture relationships with Public Schools, and are always pleased to give advice as to which would be most suited to the needs of a child.
