Good morning dear teachers and pupils. My name is Vetokhin Danil. I'm a student of school number 7, 6th grade. The subject of my work is “Presidents of the United
States of America” and I'd like to tell you about my favorite occupation.
I've always been interested in history of different countries, and when we began studying English I tried to know more about history of English speaking countries. For me the most interesting were the biographies of their heads: kings and queens, prime ministers and presidents. I think that it's impossible to understand different events that took place in the country without knowledge a history of its head, as we can say - "The personality's role in the history”.
So, now I'd like to tell you about the first US president known as "The Father of the Nation" – George Washington. George Washington began his career in the service of his country as a major in the Virginia militia and later became Commander. On April 30, 1789, before a large crowd, Washington promised to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States". And became the first President of the country and served two terms. He refused a third term and in 1797 he retired to Mount Vernon where he died two years later.
Today Washington's face and image are often used as national symbols of the United States. He appears on contemporary currency, including the one-dollar bill and the quarter coin, and on U.S. postage stamps.
Another outstanding person, whom I interested in, was the 16th President of the USA Abraham Lincoln.
Like George Washington, he takes a special place in the list of American presidents. When Abraham Lincoln was twenty-one he joined the militia and fought in an Indian War.
After the war he decided to study law and became a lawyer and a politician. Many people brought their problems to him. They began to call him "honest Abe" and trusted him to do what was right and honest.
He was also an excellent speaker. He was elected to the House of Representatives in US Congress. In 1861 he became the 16th American President.
In the same year the Civil War began, so Lincoln had to lead the country. He wanted the northern and southern states to stay together and he hated slavery.
In 1863 he signed the Emancipation Proclamation – the document that made all the slaves free. Five days after the war ended, President Lincoln was shot in Ford's Theatre in Washington.
During my research I knew a lot of interesting facts of the USA history and realized that the role of such extraordinary people in the history of country is indisputable.
I really like the topic and I'll continue to study it.
Thank you for your attention.
