Kuznetsk fortress - the monument of history and architecture of Federal significance . It was built on the mount of the ascension in 1800-1820 years by order of Emperor Paul I, as part of the Siberian line to protect the southern part of Siberia from the Chinese threat. Never since the construction was not involved in the hostilities. Abolished as a military fortress in 1846.

The Museum occupies the territory of about 21 hectares Here is not only the fortress itself, but many other historical and natural monuments, including a waterfall in the narrow canyon near the place Verhotursky redoubt Kuznetsk fortress. The structure of the Museum includes more than a dozen military fortification and architectural sites of different degree of preservation.

On the territory of the Museum there are several archeological monuments of different types. The exhibition are the military history of the region, materials of excavations of Kuznetsk fortress history fortified «lines», the history of Kuznetsk prison castle, which was situated on the territory of the fortress .
