On this painting Dega showed the artist Marcelen Debuten and actress Ellen Andre sitting at the table in a café. There is a glass of absinthe in front of her. Her glance is gloomy. In the foreground you can see newspapers and a cup with matches. There is Dega’s autograph along the edge of the newspaper. Nowadays this painting is in Orce Museum in Paris. « Absinthe »

« Bellelli family » First what attracts our eyes is a strange figure of Laura Bellelli dressed in a black funereal dress. The girls Julia and Giovanna are near their mother. The eldest Giovanna stands calm. She is very serious. The youngest girl Julia sits on a chair. Dega worked on this painting for almost 10 years.

« Blue dancers » This artwork was created in 1880 when Dega’s eyes were bad. That’s why the lines on the painting are not clear. He often depicted ballet dancers. We can see concentration and tiredness on their faces. Nowadays this painting is in the State Pushkin Museum of fine arts in Moscow.

« A repetition » ‘ Sometimes people call me a ballet dancer painter’ said Dega . W e can see a dancing class. The centre of the picture is empty – the figures of the dancers are in the left upper corner. On the right we can see two young dancers waiting for their turn and mother of one of them.

Dega often visited Italy. Most of his paintings were made there. “ Bellelli family”, “Blue dancers” are the main masterpieces created during his stay in this beautiful country.

The main character is Ludovic Lepic , a painter, a dog lover and Dega’s close friend. The Master showed him with his two daughters and a hound . They are crossing the Concorde Square in Paris. In the foreground we can see Dega’s uncle Mishel Musson - a broker of the cotton exchange. Dega’s brother Rene de Ga is sitting on a chair and reading a newspaper.
