при изучении темы "Традиции и символы Великобритании" ( по программе 6 класса УМК - English V под ред. И. Н. Верещагиной и О. В. Афанасьевой) ученикам было предложено найти интересные факты, связанные с символами Великобритании, одними из которых являются цветы. Состоялся целый конкурс презентаций, но всем больше всего понравилась данная, так как в ней были испроьзованы легенды, поверь, различные традиции, относящиеся к цветам. Также весь текст, сопровождающий презентацию, был составлен самостоятельно. Учитель (Овчинникова Надежда Николаевна) помогла в редактировании текста, в отборе и распределении найденных ученицей изображений. В общем, данная презентация была признана лучшей среди 10 участвовавших в конкурсе ( среди учеников 2-х шестых классов)

Flower of March : daffodil The Daffodil is one of the most valuable ornamental plants in spring. In nature, there are about 60 species of daffodils. Now the world knows about 12 thousand kinds of the flower. Narcissus can be used very widely for planting in flower beds, for cutting, forcing. There are colourful groups on lawns. People grow them even in pots in winter.

Flower of April : daisies This tender plant is neither more nor less than a symbol of purity and innocence . In the Middle Ages, the mentally illed people were cured with the help of mixture of daisies. The doctors believed that if the patient was not cured during 15 days, the God will call to his accident. There was also another, no less sad legend . It said that anyone who did not step his foot on the first spring daisy, could surely die within a year. Daisies are often planted on the graves of children and young men and women who died very early

Flower of may : hawthorn In England there is a belief that if on the May 1st Eve a young girl ties a branch of the hawthorn around the post at the crossroads,next morning she can learn what part her future husband will come from. Which way the wind blows, the same way the branch bends so that is the right direction to wait for the fiance. Each girl should remember: the branch must be tied very well, as if the wind blows it away, the girl may not marry at all.

Flower of June : honeysuckle The Honeysuckle is a beautiful, graceful bush about 1.2 m tall. The stems are thin, often drooping. The leaves are very little and narrow, not longer than 2 centimetres. They are light blue and green. The flowers are pink and purple, with a plesant smell, about 2.5 centimetres in diameter. Its large fruit almost of the white colour look bright in the leaves. Sometimes the color of the fruit changes, and they can be light purple. Autumn leaves remain on the plant very long.

Flower of July : water lily One of the most beautiful plants of the central part is the water lily. In the folklore of different nations of Europe there are a lot of stories about this plant. For example, the Slavs compared lily with a mermaid , called it "overcoming-grass" and were sure it had a madic power. Scandinavian tales say that each lily has an elf as a friend, who never leaves her during her life, as he gets his birth and death at the same time as she does.Some people give the lily such name as "a child of the sun", because it opens its petals at sunrise and closes them at sunset.

This flower is an attribute of the God H ypnosis. They thought he was a young lying or sitting man. Sometimes they imagined he was an angel with the wings down, carrying the poppy buds in his hands, or a poppy wreath on his head.

Flower of September : morning glory The stems of the morning glory are numerous, thin, curly, twisted in a spiral. They reach the nearest plants. The root system of the morning glory is ideally suitable for the life in unplesant conditions. Its main root reaches the depth of 3 meters, getting the water and minerals. The climbing stems can be 1 - 1.5 meters long and tie the other plants. Leaves have different forms and are usually on the stalks.

Flower of December : holly In Celtic mythology there is a legend about the kings of wood and their struggle. King Holly was the master a decreasing (dark) part of the year, and King Oak ruled the waxing (light) part of the year. In winter solstice Yule defeated Oak and ruled until mid-summer, but in summer solstice Holly King returned again and defeated his opponent. So every year there was the struggle of two parts of one whole, the brothers-enemies, who could not exist without each other. The kings’ drama is a constant change of seasons.
