Education in England is overseen by the Department for Education and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills . Education in Russia is provided predominantly by the state and is regulated by the Ministry of Education and Science .
The school year in Russia extends from the 1 of September to end of May and is divided into four terms. Study program in schools is fixed; unlike in some Western countries, schoolchildren or their parents have no choice of study subjects.
The school year in England begins on the 1 of September (or 1 August if a term starts in August).
Children in Russia are accepted to first grade at the age of 6 or 7, depending on individual development of each child. Before 1990 the course of school training in Soviet Union was 10-years, but at the end of 1990 the 11-year course has been officially entered.
Education in England is compulsory for all children from their fifth birthday to the last Friday in June of the school year in which they turn 16. This will be raised, in 2013, to the year in which they turn 17 and, in 2015, to their 18th birthday.
The eleven-year school term in Russia is split into elementary (grades 1-4), middle (grades 5-9) and senior (grades 10-11) classes. Absolute majority of children attend full program schools providing eleven-year education; schools limited to elementary or elementary and middle classes typically exist in rural areas.
The public educational system in Russia includes pre-schools, general schools, specialised secondary and higher education . So-called pre-schools are kindergartens in fact. Children there learn reading, writing and Maths . But pre-school education isn't compulsory - children can get it at home. Compulsory education is for children from 6(7) to 17 years of age. The main branch in the system of education is the general schools which prepare the younger generation for life and work.
There are various types of schools in Russia : general secondary schools , schools specialising in a certain subject , high schools , gymnasiums and so on.
After 9th form pupils have to sit for examinations. Also they have a choice between entering the 10th grade of a general secondary school or going to professional school. Pupils, who finish the general secondary school, receive a secondary education certificate which giving them the right to enter any higher educational establishment.
The table below describes the most common patterns for schooling in the state sector in England . Children are normally placed in year groups determined by the age they will attain at their birthday during the school year.

Students in England typically take GCSE examinations, which mark the end of compulsory education. In the 16–18 age group, sixth form education is not compulsory at present.
In both of the countries schools help young people to choose their career, to prepare for their future life, they make pupils clever and well-educated. They give pupils the opportunity to develop their talent.

The Tower of London The Tower of London is a very big castle. It is the oldest place in London. It was a castle, a zoo, a prison and a museum. The most famous things in the Tower of London are the Crown Jewels. They have the biggest diamond in the world – the « Star of Africa » .
Hyde Park. Hyde Park is the most famous park in London. It’s a pleasure to watch Londoners walk and jog in the park, eat their sandwiches, talk, sunbathe, read books and enjoy music. There are no signs like” Do not walk on the grass”.
