Aesop and the Traveller
Aesop was a very clever man who lived hundreds of years ago in Greece. He wrote many fine stories. He was well-known as a man who was fond of jokes. One day, as he was enjoying a walk, he met a traveller, who greeted him and said, "Kind man, can you tell me how soon I shall get to town?" "Go," Aesop answered. "I know I must go," protested the traveller, "but I should like you to tell me how soon I shall get to town."
"Go," Aesop said again angrily.
"This man must be mad," the traveller thought and went on.
After he had gone some distance, Aesop shouted after him. "You will get to town in two hours." The traveller turned round in surprise. "Why didn't you tell me that before?" he asked. "How could I have told that before?" answered Aesop. "I did not know how fast you could walk."

A king was once travelling through Holland. He stopped at a small farm in a little village to have breakfast. He or dered some coffee, bread and butter and some boiled eggs. The king ate everything and asked the farmer how much he must pay for his breakfast. The farmer answered, "A hundred florins, sir."
The king was very much surprised and said, "What? A hundred florins for a little bread and butter, a cup of coffee and two eggs? Isn't it too expensive. Perhaps it's difficult to find eggs in your village."
"Oh, no, sir," answered the innkeeper, "there are many eggs in our village, it's very difficult to find kings here."
