Was haben Babys, Lämmer und Eichhörnchen gemeinsam? Sie sind putzig. Oder sie tun etwas, das andere putzig finden.
„Oh, ist der aber putzig!" „Guck mal. Das ist aber putzig!" Wenn jemand diese oder vergleichbare Sätze ruft, dann geht es mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit entweder um kleine Kinder oder kleine Tiere. Doch weder die Babys noch die Tiere sind schmutzig, müssen „geputzt", saubergemacht werden. Das Adjektiv gehört zu den Wörtern, die vor allem für Lebewesen verwendet werden, die jemand liebenswert findet, oder die etwas tun, was einer Person sehr gefällt und sie begeistert. Ein Eichhörnchen, das Nüsse nagt; ein Baby, das niesen muss; ein Lämmchen, das noch unsicher auf den Beinen ist – all das kann putzig sein. Ursprünglich hatte das Wort mal die Bedeutung von „sonderbar", „seltsam". Das mögen vielleicht die Leute denken, die andere dabei beobachten, wie sie sich verhalten, wenn sie ein niedliches, süßes, ulkiges Lebewesen sehen.
