We use the Past Simple to talk adout: to talk about people who are no longer alive (Princess Diana visited a lot of schools) actions that took place immediately one after the other (They cooked the meal first and then they ate with their friends) repeated actions in the past (habits or hobbies). We often use adverbs of frequency to talk about habits (He often play football with his dad when he was five) actions which took place at a particular time in the past. The time is either mentioned or implied (They graduated four years ago)

Used to is used to talk about past habits or things that do not happen any more. It has the same form in all persons, singular and plural. It is followed by the infinitive. He used to eat a lot of sweets. Did he use to eat a lot of sweets? He did not use to eat a lot of sweets.
