What do I like about being an English teacher?

As you know there are a lot of people in our world who want to learn English. It is the international language and a half of billion people in the world use English in business or while they travel around the world. People of different professions like doctors, businessmen or journalists need English if they want to work abroad. That is why people who can teach are always in trend.

I have never dreamt about being a teacher. But once I came to school and started my new life. Later I understood that the life of society depend on the teachers and quality of their work. It seems to me that teachers create the next generation.

I want to talk about advantages of my profession. To begin with, it is a very interesting job because teachers have contact with many young and creative pupils. You will never forget English language. Everyday practice makes my English better and better. The students’ questions make me learn more. Furthermore, the children can teach as much as you teach them. Teachers always must stay on top of new technologies or trends. So children help me to learn something new and what is more, pupils do not allow teachers to lose their creativity. To be honest, being around young people every day makes me younger. It is a great pleasure being with children and communicate with them. Moreover, making them laugh always warms my heart.

Secondly, I want to help my students to know more and achieve their best. I teach children how to read and write how to understand what they write and talk or read, how to speak English properly. When I see how my students become wiser and well educated people, I am proud and really happy. I feel useful for others and what is the most important, I help children not only learn more but also solve their problems. And I am more satisfied when I know that my students are learning things from me. Moreover, I want to give a chance to the students to see the world through language. English is the window to learn our world.

Another advantage of being a teacher is that children do not attend school during the summer, which allows many teachers to take summers off. Schools also have days off for special events and long breaks such as winter break and spring break. So being able to be home with your own family during this time is a great opportunity.

However, there are also a number of disadvantages of being a teacher. Firstly, it is a stressful job - you are responsible for your students. Pupils should feel safe with you. It is very difficult to make children trust you and feel comfortable when you talk to them. You should know what to say in different situations. Sometimes a teacher must be very patient and behave calmly even when the situation is not easy. So I think if you want to be a teacher you should have a strong character. Secondly, this job is very tiresome. You have to explain a lot of difficult for children things. They are always asking: 'how?', 'why?' and 'what for?’. You must answer them and what is more always set a good example for them. Moreover, it is really difficult job. You have many things to do - planning lessons, preparing activities, grading papers or preparing the classroom.

Another disadvantage is that the challenge of meeting student needs. Class overcrowding, students with very different needs, and often it can be difficult to make children to do their tasks. There will always be trouble seekers and students who are not interested in learning!  Dealing with them can often become a frustrating task.

Moreover, teachers must communicate with parents of their pupils.  Wonderful parents can make you feel like you're making a difference but overly critical parents can be a real challenge.

Furthermore, teachers have very limited job opportunities outside the world of teaching. If a teacher suddenly decides to change a profession, it will be very difficult to find a new job. You should go to university and get another degree .

As for me, I have chosen education as a career because I think that my profession is the most important profession nowadays. I believe that teachers can change the world and even improve it.

To sum up, a profession of a teacher has many advantages. It is rewarding and interesting job, nevertheless it is also difficult. For me being a teacher is a pleasure and I have satisfaction from it. I want to inspire the children to do their best and improve their language skills.
