«Russia is a country where I want to live»

The aim: to learn more about our country, to develop creative ability.

The problem: to prove that our country is the unique and answer the question why Russia is a country where I want to live.

T1. Good afternoon, dear guests and students! I’m glad to see you at our lesson! Sit down, please.

T1. At the beginning of our lesson we should train your tongues. Listen to me and repeat after me.

The Ural, the Caucasus, the Altai, Eurasian, Europe, Asia, river, lake, sea, ocean, area, Siberia

north-the northern,

south-the southern,

east-the eastern,

west-the western

T1. Now I want you to ask a question. What is Russia for you? As for me, for example, Russia is a country where I was born, where my parents and grandparents were born and grew up.

So, who can answer my question? What are the theme of our lesson?

Who can form the aim of our lesson? The problem?

The main part

T1. The most widely spoken language in Europe (in number of native speakers as a native) is Russian language, both geographically and territorially. It says it is native language for 150 million Europeans. Welcome to Russia!

Now three groups of students show you the projects about geographical features of Russia, culture of our country and outstanding people who famous our country their inventions and achievements. We have experts who can ask the questions and make a conclusion about the theme of our lesson due to their future profession. Alina is a future designer. Her aim is to create the image of our country. Alina is an educator. She will speak about her future profession and patriotic education of future generation.

Let’s start! The 1st group and the 1st project.

I project

1. Our state is the largest and most northerly in the world. Russia, located on the Eurasian continent, occupies 40% of Europe and 30% of Asia.
2. The vast territory owned by the state is endless capabilities, and a burden at the same time. We have numerous people, the development potential of the productive forces and natural resources.
3. Today the state symbol of Russia is a three coloured banner. It has three horizontal stripes: white, blue and red. The white stripe symbolizes the earth, the blue one stands for the sky, and the red one symbolizes liberty.
4. A new national emblem is a two-headed eagle. It is the most ancient symbol of Russia.
5. Russia is a parliamentary republic. The Head of State is the President. The legislative powers are exercised by the Duma.
6. The President of the Russian Federation is Vladimir Putin. He represents the state in the international arena, defending the rights of every citizen and cares about the bright future of the whole country.
7. 1/7 of the total land area of the planet - 17.1 million sq km
8. Russia has one-sixth of the world's forests. They are concentrated in the European north of the country, in Siberia and in the Far East.

10. 9th largest country in numerical strength in the world
11. More than 100 nationalities.
12. About 3 million students
13. 600 universities. No other country in Europe has as many graduates
14. Ural mountains – is the oldest mountains in the world.
15. Lake Baikal is the cleanest and deepest lake in the world. If you send water of all the world's rivers into the lake, it will take a whole year to fill it with water.
16. Lake Ladoga – is the largest in Europe.
17. The massif Conder in the Khabarovsk Krai is the only in the world, having the shape of almost perfect rings.
18. The coldest place in the world with temperature of -71°C is Oymyakon in Eastern Siberia. It is often called the "pole of cold".
19. Speaking about what Russia is famous for, it is necessary to allocate large reserves of coal, oil, peat, combustible gases, and also developed black and nonferrous metallurgy, mining of precious metals.
20. Throughout the world, Russia is known not only territory, but also the unique culture, natural resources, talented people. All of this is our wealth. And our task today as the young generation to contribute to the development of our Russia.

1. I want to add our country is so large that it is washed by 12 seas and 3 oceans.

2. I want to add there are over two million rivers in Russia. The longest river is the Volga. The Volga flows into the Caspian Sea.

The culture of any nation determines its spiritual uniqueness. It shows his creative powers and abilities to be the property of all mankind. Man is a creator of culture and its main creation.

II project

 We are also rich spiritually. Our country is considered one of the cradles of world culture. Despite a long history full of battles and bloody wars, the Russian people managed to preserve and enhance its spiritual heritage, while remaining distinctive and full of national flavor.

Russian language – is one of the major languages of the world, the most widespread of the Slavic languages that belongs to family of Indo-European languages. It performs 4 major functions in the modern world. It is the national language of the Russian people, language of the Russian Federation and one of the six official UN languages.

Russian culture – is the genius of Pushkin, the most translated poet in the world.

Great Western poets and writers recognize that in the world there isn’t like Pushkin in beauty and precision of words, melody and simplicity of line.

Russian culture is the great Dostoevsky, which in Russia and around the world find the finest psychologist of the human soul. In Western universities examples from Dostoevsky's works have become commonplace on lectures on psychology and medicine.

Russian culture – is the precision and elegance of the prose of Turgenev, life wisdom and philosophy of Tolstoy, romanticism and emotion of Lermontov, the passionate lyrics of Akhmatova and Esenin, mystery of Block.

The Birch Tree
Just below my window
Stands a birch-tree white,
Under snow in winter
Gleaming silver bright

On the fluffy branches
Sparkling in a row
Dangle pretty tassels

There the birch in silence
Slumbers all day long

Russian culture – is the power of Russian painting of the 19th century and its innovation in the 20th century, which gave  creativity  many Western the genius of painting.

Russian culture – is the world size composers Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, Glazunov and Dargomyzhsky.

Record

Russian culture is matchless masterpieces of Russian ballet and the great Ulanova, Maya Plisetskaya, Anna Pavlova, Grigorovich.

Russian culture is a deep, extremely colorful, multi-faceted folk art, which supply and today's life of Russia.

Speaking about our country, is commonly attributed not only to the sphere of art, also special way of life, way of thinking and way of life of Russian people. It is a world that is unsearchable  and at the same time so close and dear to each of us.

Our nation is still open, hospitable, welcoming. And the tradition of greeting dear guests not only in word but with bread and salt and preserved in our days.

The tradition of greeting guests with bread and salt, is known in Russia since ancient times. The combination of bread and salt played the role of a very succinct symbol: bread expressed the desire of wealth and prosperity, and salt was considered a talisman, which can protect the person from hostile forces and influences. 3. Cuisine is a part of national culture.  What  the most famous Russian dishes can you recommend to foreigners?  (Borshch, pelmeni, bubliki, oladushki, ukha.)

III project

Every history book will tell you that the brilliant minds of our countrymen have contributed to the development of world progress.

In the late 19th century engineer Ippolit Romanov developed the electric car,

and Nikolay Benardos patented electric-arc welding.

Igor Sikorski was the author of the first multiengine airplane and helicopter,

and Vladimir Zworykin first got a TV, and developed the electron microscope and night-vision goggles.

Even the world-popular game "Tetris" was developed by our compatriot Alexey Pajitnov.

Nikolay Basov created the microwave laser and was awarded the Nobel prize.

The first artificial space satellite, developed by Sergei Korolev.

Gagarin is the first person in the open space!

And you shouldn’t forget the glory of the Kalashnikov!

The fame of us is booming in all corners of the globe. The best – ours!

Maria Sharapova, is the world – famous tennis player.

Alexander Ovechkin – is hockey star.

Valery Gergiev –is is  the legend of classical music.

Evgeni Plushenko – the Olympic champion in figure skating.

They and many of our compatriots is the support of the nation, a guarantee that the glory of the great powers will rattle all over the world.

But it is impossible to speak only about those whom the press called "celebrities". Is it famous for Russia? People. Each of us. The teachers are famous for Russia, engineers and doctors. Everyone who works honestly for the good of his state.

2. Who is idol for you?

T2. Now we showed us 3 aspects of Russian uniqueness: geographical position, culture of our country and great people. So, it was our image of our country. And now we’ll know the opinion of our compatriots and foreigners about it.

We’ll give you newspapers where this information is and you will watch video about our country. After reading and watching you have to answer my questions.

2. Do you want to live in our country? Why? Do you want to stay in our country and live in it?

As for me I am proud of my country because my grandparents were born here, took part in the Great Patriotic War, worked for the general weal and I want my daughter lives in Russia!

Now I want to hear the opinion of our experts.

Experts. At present, the political and economic situation in the country is rather complicated. But in spite of the problems Russia is facing at present, there are a lot of opportunities for Russia to become one of the leading countries in the world. I'm sure Russia has great past and promising future.

T2. As a hometask you should write an essay with the recommendations for the foreigners who wants to visit our country (some interesting places, sights, manners, etc.)

T2. Our lesson I want to complete with the words of our President "The fundamental principles upon which our country are so deep, so strong roots, that her wonderful, beautiful future is inevitable"!
