The United Kingdom is made up of: England (the largest country within the UK, with the capital city London), Scotland (a country in the North of the of the UK, with the capital Edinburgh), Wales (a country to the west of England, with the capital city Cardiff), Northern Ireland (to the North of Ireland with the capital city Belfast).
Great Britain
England, Scotland and Wales make up the island of Great Britain, the largest island in the Britain Isles. Politically, ‘Great Britain’ also refers to the islands that make up these 3 countries.
United Kingdom
Great Britain, along with Northern Ireland, and surrounding islands that are owned by the UK, make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Climate in the UK.
The climate of Great Britain is mild all year round. Mountains, the Atlantic Ocean and the warm waters of the Gulf Stream affect the climate of Great Britain. Winter is not cold here, and summer is not hot. October is usually the wettest month, July is the hottest, and January is the coldest.
The British political system
The United Kingdom is a monarchy, and the Queen is the head of state. But in practice, it is ruled by an elected government with the Prime Minister at its head. The British Parliament consists of two chambers: the House of Lords and the House of Commons.
There are three main parties in the UK: the Labour Party, the Conservative Party and the Liberal Party.
