Слайд 1 Let me ask you a strange question: "Is a brilliant detective named Sherlock Holmes a real man?" No? But thousands of people think so! If Sherlock Holmes were alive today, he would be more than 140 years old. We can say it from the books about him.

Слайд 2 But letters addressed to him continue to arrive at Baker Street. Many people write to the great detective asking him for help. There is no less than one letter a week. Some of those people, who write, especially from abroad, really believe that Holmes is a real person.

Some letters are sent as a joke. Children also write many letters. They ask to find their lost dogs and other things. People in our country also know and love this literary character.

Слайд 3 And what about the “father” of famous detective? Among mystery writers, the most respected of all is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A Scottish doctor who turned to writing, Arthur Conan Doyle thought he would be remembered for his historical novels. But he is famous for his world famous detective Sherlock Holmes.

Слайд 4 In all stories, Sherlock Holmes is described as an extraordinary man who solves crimes with deduction. He is very attentive to details.

Слайд 5 Doyle said he modeled Holmes after one of his teachers in Edinburgh Dr. Bell, who could, for example, glance at a corpse and deduce that the person had been a left-handed shoemaker.

Слайд 6 Sherlock  is loved by people from all over the world. That’s why there are many Sherlock Holmes’ monuments - in Switzerland, Japan, Scotland, and, of course, on Baker Street in London.

Слайд 7 In 2007 next to the British Embassy in Moscow a monument to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson was opened. And of course, the prototypes for the monument were the Russian actors. The Moscow composition – is the only one in the world where the popular heroes of Conan Doyle are together.

Слайд 8 I have an interesting fact for you. Mr. Holmes is the first literature character who has his own museum. In The Sherlock Holmes Museum you step back a hundred years in time. It is unique. There is no modern reality, but it is all real. There are no horrors, no mummies or hidden corpses, no wax figures... but the atmosphere is electric.

Слайд 9 You have a feeling as if the great detective had just left the room for a moment with Dr. Watson, and Mrs. Hudson is somewhere in the backrooms, and you'll see her with tea cups. The Sherlock Holmes Museum is unlike other museums. You can sit in Holmes’ armchair by the fireplace; you can examine his things and put on his deerstalker. But please bring your own pipe to smoke!

Слайд 10, Слайд 11  Sherlock Holmes was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most popular film character in the world. Over 80 different actors have portrayed the famous detective on the big screen. Sherlock Holmes was on the screen more times than any other character.

If you go to the museum of Sherlock Holmes on Baker Street in London, then on the wall there you will see a picture of Vasiliy Livanov, and will also hear the voices of many Russian tourists.

The British asks:  “How did the Russian actors manage to create such unique characters? Why do the British believe that Russians returned them their national heroes?”

Vasiliy Livanov believes that the explanation lies in the ability to create the characters, in the true friendship between Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The daughter of Arthur Conan Doyle Jean Conan Doyle once commented that her father would approve Livanov as Holmes.

Слайд 13  In 2006 Livanov became an Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire "for service to the theatre and performing arts. “God Save the Queen and the great Russian art!” - said Livanov.
