People’s character has nothing to do with what they wear.

They say that people are what they wear. But there is another point of view. People’s appearance reflects their character. Who is right?

In my opinion, clothes never tell the truth. To begin with, people buy clothes which they can afford. Children do not have money. They usually wear their brothers’ or sisters’ clothes. As far as adults can buy expensive things like designer clothes if they have a well-paid job. Besides, sometimes the occupation obliges us to follow dress code. Pupils wear formal clothes at school. Teachers cannot come to school in casual clothes. They must be a role model for their pupils. Doctors must wear medical gowns and so on. What is more, sometimes people want to please their parents, friends, relatives. More often they are teenagers who depend on their parents financially. Parents often have the final say. They do not want their children to wear leather jackets, mini-skirts or tops. But if you respect your parents’ opinion, you will obey them.

Nevertheless, something makes us to buy these or those clothes. We choose them somehow. And this choice shows what we are. For example, if you are a romantic person, you choose pink dresses, shoes with high heels.

Anyway, people must dress up right for the occasion. You cannot come to church in leather trousers and you cannot come to school in a fancy dress even if you are a romantic type of person.

To sum up, appearances are deceptive. We cannot judge a person by his clothes. We need time in order to make a decision.
