The teacher is my life anchor

    I will remember my first day at school for ever. Such life moments remain in people’s memory like a bright flash. I didn’t know what to expect and was afraid to be dropped from the classroom before the first lesson in my life would start.

   “If it happens so, I’ll never discover that fairy country where other pupils will live next ten years, and if I stay after all, what will my teacher be like? I’m afraid I know absolutely nothing…”, I felt an enormous fear, although, it wasn’t my nature. I realized that a new chapter of my life was just on the point of starting, a chapter which a teacher was going to lead me through.

   When I saw my teacher I calmed down immediately: all her appearance filled me with confidence that everything would be alright. I saw kindness and support in her eyes that I needed exactly at that moment – that all my classmates needed. The first impression became determined for me. I liked school from its first days and attended lessons with a great pleasure. Although many teachers have passed since the elementary school, I still remember the name of my first teacher, who I started my discovery with. I appreciate her and my following teachers so much.

    Even now, almost a school-leaver, I can hardly realize that a lot of teachers who have been training me day by day for these ten years have formed my personality in an invisible and graduate way. How have they managed it? Hundreds of petty reprimands seem to be a drop which disturbs silence of the great ocean surface – that’s how I see a teacher’s soul and teachers themselves are like a life anchor. I can hold on to this anchor so as not to run into a heavy gale furrowing the boundless ocean of knowledge. I recollect numerous moments accumulated for school years when I was ready to switch from chosen direction and follow a new way. It wasn’t a disappointment or border. I consider it an ordinary process of growing up followed with doubts, because every new idea appears in our heads and changes our mind! However what young people need to remember is that everything new should fit everyone’s individuality, but not destroy it. The aim of a teacher is to help students not to yield to the influence of every doubtful idea which they face at the beginning of their life way. Everyone makes mistakes – they form our experience. But the fewer they are, the more happily we live. So, the best way to avoid silly mistakes is to follow advices we get from grown-ups, especially parents and teachers.

   When I enter university, school teachers, who seemed to be so strict during school years, will be replaced by professors. I don’t know for sure what they’ll be like. Anyway, something new is expected to be. Whatever period of my life I pass through, teachers will accompany me during my whole life. Still, they won’t be like school teachers, who I’m so attached to and who will always remain as the life anchor for me with their wise advice I’ll never forget.
