Сочинение-рассуждение ученицы 11-а класса (2008-2009 уч.г.) Жаровой Анастасии «Зачем мы учим английский?»

                                             «Why do we learn English?»

       Learning the foreign language is the most marvelous thing in the life. It is the most pleasant present, which was given to the humanity by the development of the world. So the language is the straight way to the progress of any kind. And everybody knows the necessarily and use of all the opportunities that it gives us.

Why do we learn exactly English?

         English is a world language, and in order to prove this fact, there is such a quotation from one of the newspapers: “English is spoken by more than 350 million people. Geographically, it is  the most widespread language on the Earth”.

In my opinion, it is the mirror of all current events of our modern life. It is a connective bridge from science to technology, from trade relations to cultural, from commerce to business on the world’s level.

        It is a fact that half of word’s scientific literature is written in English, 75% of the world’s mail and telephone calls are in English. So again and again it becomes clear to us, that English is everywhere and to know it today is absolutely necessary for every educated person, for every good specialist.

What does English mean for its native speakers?

          English is the native language of the United Kingdom. And they consider the birth and the development of their language the most precious thing in their history. They sacredly keep all the traditions of it, especially the tradition, the base of which is the language of great literature: the language of W. Shakespeare, Milton and the Bible.

What does English mean for the foreign speakers?

          As for me, I think, that learning the English language opens me the fascinate world of  different adventures and knowledge. It is an everyday resource of information, which helps me to grow higher over myself. I’m sure, that there is a profit in the each aspect of the study:

     First of all it makes us high-educated persons, because it makes our outlook much more  wider.

     The second, it helps me to grow as an intellectual and educated girl, because I’ve got a beautiful opportunity to read English Literature in the original, learning a lot of things.

     The third, as I like to travel much, I can go wherever I want, because there is no any fences for the person, who is armed by the languages (It’s a pity, but nowadays it is better first to be armed by money and only then by knowledge).

       May be, the  fourth point is too simple: today the music  is in the power of the west and the majority  of all young men, I’m not an exception, listen to it with great pleasure , but it becomes more better, when you can understand the words of the songs and become capable to feel everything, what is sung about.

       The fifth point is, that nowadays we also buy many things, clothes from other countries, but if we know English well, it becomes possible to read something about the size, what the thing is made of etc.

In general, the knowledge of English is a practical use in everything.

            Let’s get to the conclusion…

        Learning a foreign language is not an easy thing. It is a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience, but in spite of this, it’s the most exciting and amusing thing to be in the center of all events, that happen in the world, which are reflected in the learning of the foreign languages.
