The writer of this story, Johann Rudolph Wyss (1782-1830), was a teacher at a university in Berne, in Switzerland. He was very interested in the stories that parents have told to their children for hundreds of years. Wyss took the idea for The Swiss Family Robinson from another famous story, Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe.
Слайд 4
The Swiss Family Robinson is based on Daniel Defoe’s novel “Robinson Crusoe” but it is different in a number of ways. But one is very important. Robinson Crusoe was not written to teach any special lessons. The Robinson family do not die at sea; they find their way to a small island. But what can they do now? Where will they live? What will they eat? Luckily the father and mother have useful skills and they can teach their four young sons. But how long will they be there, on the island?
Слайд 5
The adults were very good with their hands. They could build houses and make gardens. The Swiss family were very lucky to find so many animals, plants and other useful things on one small island.
Слайд 6
The Swiss Family Robinson shows that a loving family can work together in very difficult times. The story is told by the father. He teaches his sons lessons that readers of the book can also learn. The children have to learn to be kind and patient. They have to work hard and help their parents and their brothers. They are alone, but together, and they must always think of others. The father often talks about religion to his sons. We watch the boys grow up in their island home.

I’ve read The Swiss Family Robinson. And I found it really interesting. These days, it is more difficult to believe in the island, but The Swiss Family Robinson is still an interesting and exciting story for people of all ages. It shows that with strong minds and useful skills, people can build their lives again in a new, strange place. I would strongly recommend you to read it.
