Birds of Krasnodar Krai

 There are more than 300 different species of birds in Krasnodar  Krai. Many of them are songbirds: titmice, starlings, blackbirds, larks …In spring the land rings with their singing. A lot of  waterbirds -  swans, ducks, geese and gulls live on the lakes , rivers and on the sea coats of  Krasnodar  Krai.  In cities and villages you can see pigeons, sparrows, swallows, magpies and crows. There are owls, woodpeckers, eagle owls and eagles in forests and mountains . Birds                    are of use: they catch and eat insects and rodents. Woodpeckers save a lot of trees eating larvae and  insects in the trees. Some birds are protected by law : swans, pelicans, pheasants, egrets and partridges.

SWALLOWS.

The length is 14.6-19.9 cm. The weight is 17-20g. They are small of  blue and black  colours. They often live near people and build their nests under roofs. They eat beets, flies, grasshoppers, crickets.

STARLINGS.

The length is 18.7-21.2 cm. The weight is 75 g. They are small and black. The body is mass if.

They have a short neck and a long sharp beak. They live near  villages and farms, in steppes.

 They eat worms, insects, spiders, caterpillars, seeds  and fruits.

BLACKBIRDS.

The length is 26 cm. The weight is 80-125 g. They are black with an orange beak. They live in forests, gardens and parks.They eat  insects, worms, seeds and fruits.They  are talented imitators.

LARKS.

They are small  of  grey and white colours . They eat seeds, fruits, plants, larvae and insects. They live in fields, steppes and meadows. They usually sing in the morning.

SPARROWS.

The length is 16 cm. The weight is 22-23 g. They are grey and brown. They live near people

and build their nests under roofs or in hollows. They eat insects, seeds and fruits.

WOODPECKERS.

They  are black and white.  They have a  long narrow beak. Their heads have  a red spot . They make the holes in the trees. They eat larvae, insects, berries and nuts.

TITMICE.

The length is 8-19 cm . The weight is 11-15 g. They are small with a yellow stomack.

Their heads have white spots. They eat insects, seeds. They live in forests, parks and gardens .

CROWS.

The length is 50 cm. The weight is 50 g. They are grey and black. They live near people.

They are clever and brave. They eat insects, seeds, fruits. They can imitate the speech of

 people and  animals.

ROOKS.

The length is 47 cm. The weight is 400 g. They are black. They live in the trees and can have

about 10 nests in a tree. They live in colonies. They eat insects, seeds, fruits.

MAGPIES.

The length is 48 cm. The weight is 230 g. They are big. They live near people and eat insects,

seeds and fruits. They are grey or dark-blue and grey, sometimes white or brown.

There are different and amazing birds in our region. A lot of them are useful for people, other are simply interesting and funny. But all of them are our part of life.
