Reading: Forgotten Pleasure?

To read or not to read: that’s the question? I paraphrase Shakespeare’s lines from Hamlet’s monologue, because I think that in today’s world it is a moot case, especially among young generation.

Many people believe that reading has become a forgotten pleasure because appeared a lot of alternative entertainments, for example, the Internet. We can find practically all kinds of information there, read e-books, but no one internet publication could replace reading printed books.

I consider that a book is one of the greatest wonders of the world. I take a book and plunge into reading, forgetting about reality. A quiet rustle of pages, their mysterious smell make reading the most enjoyable rest. The heroes of the books come alive in our imagination. The reader creates characters’ appearance, empathize with their frustration and rejoice in their successes. We try to look like the characters of our favourite books: to be brave, honest, not to be silly or greedy, to be real friends. Characters become our friends and it’s very exciting what’ll happen next.

I’m sure that books play a very important role in our life. They give us an opportunity to imagine the future, to look into the past. A lot of books were written many years ago, but they’re still actual and popular nowadays. Sometimes, in difficult situations, books can help us to make a right decision.

Books are our friends during all our life. We must treat them with care, and they’ll give us a lot of pleasure!
