What qualities should the best English teacher have? It is a question which has been hotly debated over the last few years.

First of all, the best English teacher gave knowledge useful for students in their future life. All of them want to be successful in future carrier, to have a better job, to be well-educated and so on. The good teacher should know his subject perfectly, have communication skills like a public speaker, be a real leader and could convince people in the rightness of his words. All students are different, so the teacher has to make students’ interest in his subject that they would understand, hear and listen to him. Moreover, the teacher should have a good sense of humor, which can help him to make the atmosphere at the lesson less formal and more enjoyable. Teaching is a serious process, and a little humor makes it less serious and more efficient. He should explain every topic in the easiest way, because no everyone can understand the material properly.

The process of schooling changes rapidly. And the function of teachers is to help students learn by providing them with knowledge and by setting up a situation in which students can and will learn effectively. And the teacher plays a set of parts, which vary from one society to another and from one educational level to another. Some of these roles are performed in school, some in the community. And the teacher becomes a mediator of learning and has to be knowledgeable about the subject he teaches and competent.

Also, the teacher should inspire, motivate his students. The good teacher does not place emphasis wholly upon academic achievement but recognizes and appreciates many other types of abilities and leadership qualities in children. The teacher as social engineers can socialize and humanize the young by their man-like qualities. As John Steinbeck once said, a great teacher is a great artist and you know how few great artists there are in the world. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts.

All in all, students’ success depends of the teacher’s skills, his knowledge, and moreover his humane qualities.
