My Native Land.
The subject of my discussion is «My Native Land». I chose this topic because it is actual, cognitive and very interesting. I am proud that I live in Primorye and I am happy to show you its best places.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nastia. I’m glad to see you. Today I am your guide around Primorye and I’ll try to do my best!
Before setting out on your travels you have probably glanced at the
map, which showed you that Primorye Territory, or Primorye, is situated in the southeast of Russia and occupies a small part of its territory. It covers an area of 1,659 square kilometers. In the South and East Primorye is washed by the waters of the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean.
Three-fourth of the territory is covered with the Sikhote - Alin Mnt. Range. The mountain land is rich in coal, iron, zinc and wolfram. Two-thirds occupied by the Ussuri Taiga is a real botanical garden. There are about 50 small and large rivers there, but the Ussuri and the Razdol’naya rivers are the biggest and the deepest of them.
Vladivostok is the capital of Primorye. It is a frontier city. Here Russia
and Asia meet. It is washed by Amursky and Ussuriysky gulfs. Its population is about 700000 people. Vladivostok is the largest scientific and educational center. There are many sights in Vladivostok. The tourists prefer sea voyages and the tour «Vladivostok at night»
Especially the tourists like hiking tours to the Ussury taiga. Approximately two-thirds of Primorye is under forest. Its Ussury taiga is a veritable botanical garden where, besides the Dauriya larches, the spruces, pines, silver firs, cedar, the king of taiga, grow cork trees, yew-trees, grapes and apricots and many other unique species of plants. Legendary ginseng is
a very valuable medical plant.
The fauna is also beautiful. The taiga is the playground of the noble roes, the spotted deer, called the flower deer because of its colouring. There are 500 individuals live in Primorye. We can see squirrels, elks, snakes, wild boars, wild cats, red wolves, bears, raccoons, hares, hedgehogs, badgers, minks, foxes, polecats, chipmunks, muskrats.
The Far Eastern tiger is a rare beast and hunting of it is prohibited. Why are tigers disappearing? Poachers illegally hunt and kill the tigers because their fur, bones, whiskers and other body parts are sold on the black market for a lot of money. It has been unofficially estimated that tigers will disappear from the wild forever in 10 years. I think that it is time to act to save these magnificent animals. Environmentalists plan to increase population. Their task would be to make it 750 individuals. They are known as: Siberian tiger, Manchurian tiger, North Chinese tiger, Korean tiger, Altaic tiger and Ussuri tiger.
Birds have made the Ussuri taiga famous to naturalists far outside Primorye. Orlans, falcons and owls are very beautiful birds.
Primorye is washed by the Pacific Ocean. Its delicatessen – crabs, red caviar, salmon, shrimps, octopuses, sea hedgehogs and scallops – is world famous. Trepang or the sea cucumber is a sea organism. It heals the heart.
And the rejuvenating elixir has a stimulating and general strengthening effect.
«Primorye is a land of beauty,
Primorye is a land of glee,
It has a lot of rivers, forests, cities,
Where a man is happy, proud and free»
