In that autumn Pushkin finished "Eugene Onegin ". His companion of many years of life, he worked on this novel 7 years 4 months 17 days! This novel was the first work in the spirit of true realism - not only here, but throughout the whole of Western Europe . When A. Pushkin began to write "Eugene Onegin " he had grave doubts that it could be printed. And indeed , the first chapter was published only in 1825.
