Valera stayed at home alone. He was sitting and, as usual, playing computer games.  It was a new version of “The Heroes of Might and Magic”. Valera likes this game very much. He couldn’t decide to end the game.

Suddenly someone knocked at the door. Valera came to the door and opened it. He saw three strange extraterrestrial beings. They were short and they have big abdomens and funny long horns. Their eyes were big and kind.  

Valera likes to read science fiction books and he believes in histories about UFO. He understood that they are LGM. But they didn’t look like typical LGM. He was very interested their appearance.

At that time Valera regretted that he hadn’t learnt foreign languages at school. He wanted to talk to LGM.

Valera invited the LGM to come in. He set the table and gave them strawberry jam and tea. He was very surprised when the LGM answered him in Russian. And then he remembered that the LGM can speak different languages.

The LGM told him about their planet called Torax. They were hurried to their friends from Venus. They wanted to celebrate New Year together. But their radar has broken and they landed at the Earth. They were afraid to be late because it was only 3 days to the New Year’s Day. Valera decided to help his guests. He conducted them to the father’s garage and solved to use different tools.

And then he went to the shop in order to buy Coca-cola and cake for celebrating their meeting. At the evening Valera switched on the lamps on the fir-tree and invited the LGM to celebrate their meeting.  

The LGM were stupefied. They have never seen anything like this fir-tree. Valera tried to explain that it’s a tradition to decorate a fir-tree every year, but the LGM didn’t listen to him. They were very surprised and discussed the fir-tree. They haven’t seen a tree with candies, oranges and apples. They have seen a fir-tree before, but only with strobilus. Valera decided to give to the LGM the fir-tree. The LGM were very happy.

At the morning the LGM have flown to the Venus.

When Valera told his parents how he had met the LGM, his parents didn’t believe him. They decided that he had broken the fir-tree. But they didn’t punish him. It was a New Year, it is time for gifts, not for punishment.  

The year had gone. It was a New Year’s Day again. Valera’s family was sitting at the table. Suddenly someone knocked at the door. When Valera opened the door he saw a big box. There was no address and Valera couldn’t understand who could send this box. Valera opened the box. There were many candies, apples, oranges, and chocolates. There was also a letter written by undecipherable handwriting:

“Dear Valera!

Happy New Year to you!!!

Thank you very much for your magic tree! It rooted well at our planet. In this year we’ve got a good harvest.

With best wishes

People of Torax.”
