East or West, home is best,

This is the proverb I like best.                              

I was grown on its chest,

I would clasp it to my breast.

My native fields and small ravines,                        

My pine- trees and tasty blins,

And muddy road under my feet,

We are always happy guests to meet

I live in Russia. It is a beautiful country with many cities and towns: Moscow, Ufa, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok and many others.

I live near a small quiet provincial town Svobodni, you can find such towns all over Russia.

The Svobodni District is situated in the Far East and it is one of the districts in the Amur Region. The territory of our district is 225 square kilometers. (slide 2) There is a space drome in our district. (slide 3)

 The land area is very beautiful. Many places here are extremely picturesque.  (slide 4) High hills, majestic woods and wide river valleys – this is the ordinary, but so dear to our hearts landscape of an eastern Russian Region. Thousands of rivers and lakes abundant berry bogs and taiga forests offer the best opportunities for hunting, fishing and gathering berries, mushrooms and herbs.

We have not to forget our origin Russian traditions, our long and hard history. This year Svobodni celebrates its 100th anniversary. Svobodni is the second town according to the value and significance in the Amur Region.

Our town was founded in 1912 it was connected with the constructing of the railroad. According to the builders' project the town would be the biggest in the Far East, wide streets, the places for the markets and churches, parks and avenues.

 And so, on the 30th of July (12th of August) 1912 the new town had been installed and named in honour of the son of Nicolay II tsetsarevich Aleksey, the heir of the throne. (slide 5)

The first general-governor N. Gondatty gave the town the tsar's name Alekseevsk. (slide 6) It was the exact time of its founding. There was own tsar's gate, painted in different colours, the triumphal arch, the fish plant and even its own “London».  In 1917 our town had been renamed to Svobodni. The story of the town and its people can be seen in the museum.

Today Svobodni is an administrative and cultural centre of our district.

 There are many schools here, we also have a school for blind children, sport schools, a stadium, monuments, shops. (slide 8)

When walking along the quiet streets you can see many beautiful buildings, old and new. (slide 9)

There are a lot of flowers in the streets, especially in spring and summer. There is a House of Culture, a cinema, a Library, a park, a beautiful church.

There is also the Children Railway which is famous all over the country.

 Why not visit our town? I'd like to recommend the guests see the Alley of Heroes.(slide 10)

Of course here we have the main square which is named after Lenin, where there is a monument to the great leader in past. It is very nice to have a rest in a central square. (slide 11)  Many children, teenagers and adults like to spend their free time there. It's very pleasant to watch happy mothers and fathers, walking together with their kids.

Now the name of our town is Svobodni, but some people want to give back   the previous name Alekseevsk. So we can say that there are two names of our town.

In my opinion the modern name Svobodni associates with freedom, pride and independence.  There are many proud namesakes of Svobodni in the world in some regions in Russia, the town Liberty in the USA, the town Freetown in Africa. And the name Alekseevsk is already the history.  

I'd like Svobodni to be a wonderful, modern, clean, light and green town with bright future. I want to celebrate Svobodni and all its inhabitants with the  anniversary of the town!
