Why Canada is thought to be a great destination to study? Well, I have never thought about it before. After reading the question I immediately sat before my computer and tried to find as many information about Canada as possible.
First of all, I am eager to study in Canada because this is an English-speaking country. That means that while studying in Canada I will be able to master my English. But it turned out that the people living in Canada speak two languages at once. It is amazing. If I study in Canada, I will have an opportunity to master my English and to learn French at the same time. It will let me to visit not only English-speaking countries, but French-speaking countries as well. And knowing of the languages will give me an opportunity to find well-paid job.
As it turned out, the French language has been studied before English in Yakutia. The spread of the French language among the Sakha people happened in the 19th century owing to Decembrists who after the uprising were exiled to Siberia. Also, it is worth mentioning that there is bilingualism in Yakutia. Just as in Canada, people in the republic speak two languages at once: Yakut and Russian.
Secondly, the nature and the climate. Climate and nature of Canada are very similar to the ones of my native land. Both in Yakutia and Canada there are cold winters and short summers. The average winter temperature in Canada is thirty five degrees below zero, and in Yakutia is thirty two below zero. In Canada one can observe contrast temperatures in the north and in the west.
Canada is known for its mountains, rivers, lakes and beautiful forests that cover more than fifty percent of the country. There are many rivers, lakes, forests and mountains in Yakutia as well. I was glad to know about the similarity. If I had a chance to study in Canada, I would not miss my home a lot. Familiar landscape would soothe my heart.
Thirdly, education in Canada. It is of high quality and has got an international recognition. All higher education institutions in Canada have their own characteristics and priorities, but most of all I liked Thompson Rivers University. Thompson Rivers University (TRU) is one of the leading state universities in Canada. It offers prestigious bachelor's and master's programs, and also programs to study English language in the country. The University is located in Kamloops and specializes in business and management, hotel and restaurant business, humanities, creative and engineering, information technology, medicine and law.
As I have known, the university was established many years ago and it is one of the best universities in Canada. Students from many countries study at the university. People living in the town of Kamloops are very friendly. I just imagine myself living in the place. As I have understood, students are offered not only high quality education, but all kind of help as well. Students are also provided different excursions; they can take part in many events that happen in the town. The climate in the area is wonderful; but what is more wonderful is that the town is surrounded by more than 200 lakes. It is amazing. The region I live in is famous for the large amount of lakes as well.
As I have read about the university, the headmasters take care not only about students’ mental but physical abilities as well. Students can ride horses, play golf and go in for different water sports. I wish I could study at the Thompson Rivers University. I would choose either art or psychology. In my opinion, any student of the university can get an excellent education and a chance to find a job according to the chosen profession.
As for the history of Canada. I think that to live in the country one should know its history. People can learn things not only from the university courses, but also from the history of a country. We learn from the past.
So I knew that the Indians were the first inhabitants of Canada. They have been living on the territory of Canada for a long time. I was surprised by number of Indian tribes – there about 1700 ones. The Huron and the Iroqouis tribes are the largest ones. I would like to know more about culture and traditions of the Indians. It seems to me that Sakha people have similar customs and traditions as the Indians have. I think that if I studied at the Thompson Rivers University, I would devote my diploma to the theme.
One more interesting fact is that the Vikings once visited Canada. Frankly speaking, before that I didn’t think that the Vikings really existed. It was a discovery for me. So Canada became even more attractive for me than before. It turned out that the Vikings settled in Canada for some time; and what is more surprising, archeologists have found the remains of the settlement and some tools near Quebec city.
I consider Canada a great destination to study also for the reason that this country authorities try to follow democracy principles. I have learnt that different religions co-exist in the country, that people with different color of skin live peacefully in Canada. This is the country where everyone tends to be tolerant to the person with different point of view. So this aspect is of great importance for me.
In conclusion I would like to say once again that it would be a great joy for me to study at a Canada university. As I have already told above, there are many reasons for that. The first reason is that education at the universities is of high quality; if person has got the diploma of the Canada university, he or she can find a job in any country of the world. Especially when the person speaks two world-wide known languages that are spoken in Canada – English and French. The next reason I would like to study in Canada is nature and climate of the country. It is very similar to the nature and climate of the region I live in. The similarity would help me to adapt more quickly to new place of living. Then, the history of Canada is also important. A person can learn many things from the past. And the last reason that is also important is that the authorities of Canada follow the principles of democracy. I do understand that regime influences the way the things are taught.
All in all, Canada is really a great destination to study.
