But Today, I'm inviting you to make a tour of the unique Buddhist temple complex. Ivolginski datsan , the heart of Buddhist Russian Sangha , is situated in the vast open space not far from Ulan-Ude.

Ivolginski datsan was founded in 1945. It is protected by the government as an important architectural monument.

You can see some quaint edges of the roof against the sky.

Buddhist temples are decorated with woodcarving and stamping.

All woodcarving is a handmade work. There is a variety of woodcarving: lotus flowers, curls, sharp-clawed dragons and lions.

There is a place named Divazhin Dugan .

Seven hundred valuable history and philosophy books are kept there.

Another place named Maanin Dugan is devoted to Merciful and Compassionate Buddha. People swear here that they won’t lie, abuse with alcohol or steal. For three nights they stay here, read mantras and worship; that way they get rid of sins and give their children the way to the bright future . .

Choira Dugan is the oldest construction built in 1946. It is a two-storied wooden building painted in bright colours : red, yellow and green. Choira Dugan rises festive and cheerful feelings. The Church services and Buddhist lectures are held there nowadays.

Etigel Humbyn Dugan is a temple constructed according to Chinese architectural design. The temple is devoted to the Sacred Imperishable Body of Grand Priest Dashi Dorzho Itigelov , who used to be the Grand Priest of Buddhists His body was transported there after the special ceremony.

His imperishable body proves immortality of his spirit. As the legend says, on June 15 1927, the Grand Priest Dashi Dorzho Itigelov sitting in the lotus posture went to nirvana. His body was put into cedar sarcophagus. In September 2002, the sarcophagus was raised up and transported to the special temple “The blessed Palace of the Grand Priest Itigelov ”.
