How do I decide on my future career

Hello everyone,

today we are going to discuss a very important topic – our career choice. I want to ask my friend Deni what she thinks about this issue. So, how do we decide on our future career?

Denilla:

To begin with, there is a wide variety of professions to select from in our modern world. Let’s have a look at the survey conducted among Russian school students aimed at finding out what professional services and industries they find the most prestigious.

Maria:

According to the survey presented in the form of a pie chart, Russian school students consider media industry or medicine and biotechnology the most prestigious occupations (35 and 28 percent respectively). This figure is followed by Information and Communication Technology (20% of the respondents). And what about other services and industries?

Denilla:

As can be seen from the pie-chart, ICT is twice as popular as Beauty and Fashion industry. This can be explained by the fact that modern technology has become part and parcel of our everyday life. Masha, are there any problems that can arise with choosing a career?

Maria:

Yes, there are some problems one can face while choosing a career. One such problem is that some people make their choice only according to such criteria as money and popularity. Are there ways to deal with this issue?

Denilla:

To solve this problem students should be taught to think not only in terms of money and prestige but also decide if their future work is useful for others.

Maria:

In conclusion, I’d like to say that choosing a career is of vital importance to every person and many factors should be considered.

Denilla:

I believe that it is important to have a well-paid and prestigious occupation, but we must also consider the fact that our profession should be beneficial for other people.
