Annotation: this work is designed to explain phenomenon of the okay’s absence in American and British literature in the 19th century[1].
Learning English cannot pass without touching on historical gaps, because there are quite a lot of them. “Okay” is a perfect example of such inconsistency. It is mentioned nowhere and everywhere all at the same time.
It seems that in colloquial speech this is the most popular word. In writing, it was not used for a long time and was prohibited.
In this research, we have studied the literary path of "OK", obstacles that this word has encountered on the way to the title "most commonly used". The study presents the results of the analysis of literature of the past and present century. Much of the work is devoted to the "phenomenon of the absence" of this word in the literature.
[1] It is about the phenomenon of the OK’s absence in the literature from 1840s to 1920s, when it commonly used in the spoken language, but not in the any kinds of writing materials.
