People learn from mistakes and blunders, not from successful deeds
There is a prejudice that mistakes should be avoided in the learning process and if a person is not mistaken, it means that he is studying well. This view extends not only on education, but also on the life as well. It is believed that ideally you need to live it without making mistakes. But is it true?
The learning process itself is based on mistakes. We don't just learn from them- there is no other way to learn except by making mistakes. During learning and acquiring new life experience, mistakes are not even inevitable — they are the essence of the process. Accordingly, if there are no mistakes, there is no training. There are two approaches to learning that correspond to two types of thinking: fixed and flexible. People with fixed thinking believe that they have a certain level of intelligence and cannot noticeably change it. They are guided by the principle of "you can't jump over your head," and they perceive a mistake as a sign that they are not capable enough. Those who have flexible thinking are focused on the development of the process. They believe that if they make an effort and show diligence and patience, they will be able to significantly improve their abilities. A mistake for them is a reason to learn. Such mistakes make us move on.
On a subjective level, we perceive an error as "something went wrong", but that very "wrong" contributes to the most active processes. These mistakes are the most valuable for learning: this process is built on failures, not on success. To miss the opportunity of failure, trying to do everything correctly and accurately, is to miss the opportunity for learning and development. By the way, many discoveries, including discovery of the continents, were made by mistake.
As for me, mistakes or failing something make me stop, analyze and draw conclusions. Every new day brings us new opportunities to move forward. Life is an internal search for oneself, a struggle for one`s existence and success. The struggle is usually hard, but when we overcome obstacles and failures, we become closer to our goals.
Thus, the fear of making a mistake negatively affects gaining life experience and the educational process, while the absence of this fear and the willingness to work on mistakes guarantees effective learning and great results.
