The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is the only organization of the UN system whose activities are dedicated exclusively to children. Working with other UN agencies, Governments and non-governmental organizations, UNICEF strives to provide primary health care, nutrition, basic education, access to clean drinking water and basic sanitary conditions to children in need around the world. Thus, the UN Children's Fund helps to save the lives of millions of children and give them a chance for a better future.

UNICEF protects children's rights in more than 190 countries and cooperates with a large number of international and national public organizations. In its work for the benefit of children, UNICEF uses the fame and talent of world celebrities. The Institute of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors has been in existence since 1954. American actor-comedian Danny Kaye was the first to propose the award of this title. One of the first UNICEF goodwill ambassadors was the famous film actress Audrey Hepburn. Famous people act as international, regional or national ambassadors, depending on their profile, interests and desired level of responsibility. UNICEF goodwill ambassadors include David Beckham, Angelina Jolie, Christina Aguilera, Shakira , Maxim Vengerov , Oleg Gazmanov and many others.

The goal of the program is to allow celebrities who are not indifferent to the problems of UNICEF to use their fame to draw attention to important issues. Such activities can take the form of public initiative and negotiations, visits to troubled areas that attract media attention, and the use of ambassadors of their political powers to protect the goals of organization. In recent years, UNICEF has been expanding its circle of allies. Mayors, parliamentarians and religious figures join a large number of influential and active defenders of children. They are prominent in the fight for children's rights and in the development of local, regional and national action plans to protect their interests. To date, UNICEF has about 200 goodwill ambassadors, who have different status - national, regional, international.
