Vladivostok is a mysterious entity saturated with sea salt and wind. It is a Russian city, but is it Asian or European? Is it the center of a new world or is it an ambitious end of the world? It is a city that lets you leave it, but never lets you forget it…
Sightseeing tour of Vladivostok Vladivostok makes different impression on every traveler. It can open and reveal itself quite unexpectedly. Everyone will be able to find here something interesting and unusual. You should visit the city and get your own idea of it! What about taking a virtual trip around Vladivostok and visiting the places that have become the main attractions of the city ? So, let’s go!
Eagle’s Nest Hill As the highest point in downtown Vladivostok, Eagle’s Nest Hill offers the best panoramic view of the city. It is also a geographical center of the city, with its television tower and radio-transmitting center located here. You can take the funicular, or hike up the hill, but do not forget to take your camera as the views of Vladivostok are really breathtaking. Eagle’s Nest is an extinct volcano , being a part of the Sikhote Alin Mountain range. This popular observation point is an excellent place to start getting familiar with our city.
Sports Harbor: place for walking and recreation It is one of the oldest and most popular vacation spots. This place got the name Sports Harbor in1953, when a well-equipped beach was opened here, comfortable grounds for various sports and a large health complex were built. People come to the embankment to sunbathe on the beach, sit in the cozy cafes and just stroll along the cost, resting from the city rush. The main attraction of the Sports Harbor is considered to be a magnificent light-music fountain – by far the largest in Vladivostok.
Zolotoy Bridge or the Dream that has come true The construction of Zolotoy Bridge, which connects the two banks of the Golden Horn Bay , was strongly promoted by the APEC summit held in the city in early September 2012. With the new cable-braced bridge - one of the five largest bridges in the world -Vladivostok has solved the vital problem of communication between the downtown area and the city's remote parts. The bridge has colorful illumination that makes it even more majestic and spectacular in the evening and at night. You can take magnificent pictures of this symbol of the city ! S-56 Submarine Museum The city has several monuments devoted to Russian seamen's heroism . The Memorial Submarine S-56 is one of them. Upon its origin in 1936, the submarine S-56 was the first rank vessel equipped with powerful engines. In 1975, to honor the 30th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, the submarine was installed on the pedestal of eternal glory and the unique museum was equipped inside it. You should visit this museum devoted to the vessel's history and the development of the Pacific Fleet's submarine forces by all means and feel the unusual atmosphere .
Arseniev Museum of Primorsky Region: "living" history of the Far East The exposition of the Primorsky Museum is based on unique ethnographic and archaeological collections of scientists and researchers of the XIX century. Each room reveals pages from the life of the Far East: crafts and agriculture, animal and underwater world and historical milestones of development. The unique collections of porcelain, carved and engraved bones, a large collection of ancient and modern cold weapons from around the world are also interesting .
The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is one of the most modern theatres in Russia and in the Asian-Pacific Region, built for the APEC Summit in 2012 . Picturesquely located on the hills overlooking the Sea of Japan, the theatre building, with its original architectural design and panoramic glass facade, has become one of the major tourists’ attractions in the region . An intense repertory schedule , distinctive acoustics and high professionalism of perfomers have made the Primorsky Stage one of the most visited theatres in Russia and the APR countries .
Egersheld Lighthouse: on the very edge of the continent Founded in 1876, the Egersheld Lighthouse serves not only as the main landmark for seamen who enter the Port of Vladivostok, but also as one of its key attractions, which is always included in the tourists' must-visit lists . It was named in honor of Peter the Great Bay's legendary explorer, captain second rank Gustav Egersheld . The lighthouse stands at the extremity of the narrow stony spit. Visitors come here to admire breathtaking views that open from the lighthouse: there are Russky Island and the Port of Vladivostok on the left, and the incredibly beautiful sea to the right. This place is certainly worth visiting!
Russky Bridge Russky Bridge is currently the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world . It connects the mainland Vladivostok with the Russky Island. This bridge has the world’s largest span of cable-stayed bridges, 1104 meters length. The construction of the bridge began in September 3, 2008. It was the part of the city’s preparations for the APEC summit in 2012. The suspension cables are white, red and blue, representing the flag of the Russian Federation . You can see this beautiful bridge from most parts of Vladivostok.
Primorsky Aquarium Primorsky Aquarium does not need advertising. In the Primorsky Aquarim visitors will be able to see large scale exhibits, which will show theories about the origin of our Universe , evolution in the ocean , and also will present current biodiversity in the fresh and salt waters of our planet. Most of the exhibits will be live ones. They will let you meet inhabitants of the Russian water zones, such as the Sea of Japan / East Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk and the Bering Sea, the Amur River, Lake Baikal and Lake Khanka, as well as inhabitants of cool polar seas, warm tropical rivers and seas, and the open ocean.
Primorsky Aquarium It is impossible to describe the whole beauty of this place. You should see it with your own eyes.
Funicular 50 years old Vladivostok’s funicular is still very popular transport with city residents. The funicular consists of only two cable cars that run up and down the slope of Eagle’s Nest Hill, connecting Pushkinskaya street and Sukhanov street. Today there are only two funiculars in Russia : one in Sochi and the other in Vladivostok. Due to its uniqueness and fantactic view over Zolotoy Rog (Golden Horn) Bay, the Vladivostok funicular has become a popular tourist attraction , despite the short length of its route (183 meters, which is only a 1.5-minute ride — short, but unforgettable).
My source of inspiration… There are so many places to see and admire in Vladivostok! Our city is worth a thousand words! It’s a real jewel on the Pacific coast. Vladivostok is so beautiful, magnificent and unique! That is why every visitor immediately falls in love with it. If you ask me what I am most excited about (except the fantastic views of the city), I would answer: “The smell”. The smell of the sea and seafood, the smell of green tea and cranberry ice cream, the smell of lilac that grows near the house and much more. All this creates an amazing perfume composition called Vladivostok. And what will remain in your memory after visiting Vladivostok?
