New year in different countries New year in different countries is celebrated differently. Here it will be shown how to celebrate new year in Italy, South Africa, England, Russia, Japan.

Italy In Italy, the New year begins on the sixth of January. According to legends, this night on the magic broom there flies Fairy godmother Befana. She opens the door with a little Golden key, and goes into the room where children sleep, fills with gifts baby stockings, specially hanging from the fireplace. For t hose who have done poorly at school or misbeh aved , Befana leaves a pinch of ash or ember. Italian Santa Claus is Babbo Natal e . In Italy it is considered that the New year should begin, freed from old. So on new year's eve it is customary to throw out boxes of old things. Italians really like this custom, and they do it with their passion typical of southerners: out of the window fly old irons, chairs and other stuff. It is believed , the vacant place will be occupied by new things.

Russia New Year is a great holiday in our country. Everybody likes it very much. It is especially loved by little children. People do not go to work on that day, and children do not go to school. This holiday is considered to be a family holiday. It is usually celebrated at home among the members of the family. People decorate their houses and usually have a fire tree which stands in the corner of the room. Those fire trees are very beautiful. The presents are usually put under these trees. Our parents prepare for this holiday well. They buy a New Year tree, decorate it, buy a lot of tasty food and drinks.

At twelve o’clock in the night people can see the president on TV who addresses them with traditional words of congratulation. At this time people are sitting at the tables of their holiday dinner and enjoying it in a good company. Young people usually organize a dance party and have a lot of fun. Some of them go out into the streets and the squares. The next day friends usually come to wish a Happy New Year to all the members of the family.

Japanese Santa Claus is called Segato-San - Mr. New year. Favorite Christmas fun for girls is the game of shuttlecock, and the boys in the days of the holiday start a traditional kite. The most popular Christmas accessory is a rake. Every Japanese believes that to have them in the New year is to get happiness.
