All countries have their own money: in Russia - rubles, in France-francs, in Kazakhstan- tenge , in India-rupees, but whatever the name of money, it plays a huge role in the life of any country.

Banknotes of Great Britain and Northern Ireland The official currency of the United Kingdom is the pound sterling £ which is equal to one hundred pence . English banknotes are issued by the Bank of England. As to coins they are minted also by this state bank. There are banknotes of the following denominations: £1, £5, £10, £20, £50 All the banknotes in the UK have a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the front and a famous historical person on the back.

Interesting facts : Bills printed in different regions differ in design. In Scotland they are brown, olive or green, and in Ireland they are grey, blue, purple or blue-green. Today, 1 pound costs about 105 rubles. In 2016, the UK paper money was changed to polymer plastic.
