Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin was an outstanding Russian cosmonaut. He was the first person to venture into space.

Gagarin was born on March 9, 1934, in a small village called Klushino , near Gzhatsk . Today, this city is called Gagarin in honor of the first cosmonaut. Yuri grew up an intelligent and active boy. In addition to Yuri, there were three other children in the family. The future cosmonaut had a difficult childhood. Like many people in those days, his family suffered from the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War. Together with his mother, brothers and sister, he was forced to live in a dugout during the war.
