Vladimir Vladimirovich Nabokov ( 22 April 1899–2 July 1977) was a multilingual Russian novelist and short story writer. Nabokov wrote his first nine novels in Russian, then rose to international prominence as a master English prose stylist.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Nabokov Nabokov was born on 22 April 1899), in Saint Petersburg, to a wealthy and prominent Saint Petersburg family. He was the eldest of five children of liberal lawyer, statesman and journalist Vladimir Dmitrievich Nabokov and his wife, Elena Ivanovna Rukavishnikova .

Work Nabokov's first writings were in Russian, but he came to his greatest distinction in the English language. Nabokov translated many of his own early works into English. Nabokov published under the pseudonym "Vladimir Sirin " in the 1920s to 1940s, occasionally to mask his identity from critics . Nabokov is noted for his complex plots, clever word play, and use of alliteration.

Work Nabokov's stature as a literary critic is founded largely on his four-volume translation of and commentary on Alexander Pushkin's epic of the Russian soul, Eugene Onegin , published in 1964.
