Emigration After the 1917 February Revolution the Nabokov’s were forced to flee the city, not expecting to be away for very long. They settled briefly in England, where Vladimir enrolled in Trinity College , Cambridge and studied Slavic and Romance languages.

Work Nabokov's first writings were in Russian, but he came to his greatest distinction in the English language. Nabokov translated many of his own early works into English. Nabokov published under the pseudonym "Vladimir Sirin " in the 1920s to 1940s, occasionally to mask his identity from critics . Nabokov is noted for his complex plots, clever word play, and use of alliteration.
