The history of London Eye

The London Eye has a very interesting history, also known as the Millennium Wheel, located on London’s Southbank, is the world’s largest observation wheel and most popular paid tourist attraction in the UK. Drawing visitors from all over the world, the wheel has transformed London’s landscape and stands today as a national symbol that celebrates Britain’s innovation and technological success in the 21st century. In 1993, the Sunday Times announced a competition for a "Millennium Structure" to be built in London in time for the Millennium. A married couple of architects-Julia Barfield and David Marks submitted for consideration the project of the Ferris wheel. But the jury rejected their proposal. But the architects were so burning with their project that they decided to find investors on their own and bring their creation to life. In 1998, investors were found and construction began. Structural elements were delivered by the Thames and assembled on floating platforms. After that, with the help of a special mechanism, the wheel was raised from the horizontal to the vertical position. The experiment was so successful that the "eye of London" entertains and delights tourists to this day. But not everyone dares to ride on the ride – because the height of 135 meters-this is still the test. But those who have overcome their fear are rewarded with amazing views of the city and thrills. The 32 capsules of the Eye are symbolic of London’s 32 boroughs and are numbered 1 to 33, eliminating the thirteenth carriage for good luck. Measuring at a height of 443 ft (135 meters), the wheel offers some of the greatest panoramic views of the city, on a good day stretching as far as 25 miles. The London Eye continues to attract approximately 15,000 visitors a day and has won more than 40 awards for its significant contribution to London’s tourism.

The history of Aginskoe Ferris Wheel

It is wonderful to relax in the fresh air after a productive working week. It is not necessary for this to travel outside of Aginskoe, it can be done in the Central Park of culture and recreation. Here you can have a great time alone or with family or friends. There is an amazing atmosphere of carelessness and fun. This place is great for everyone. People can visit the attraction «Ferris Wheel» which is the most popular attraction in the park. The height of Aginskoe Ferris wheel is 30 meters and each of the 20 cabins for 4 people. Total for one journey can ride 80 people. Visiting the Aginskoe Ferris wheel, you can enjoy a great view of the town and its surroundings from a height of 30 meters. It was opened in 2007. The opening took place on June 30 in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Aginsk Buryat Autonomous Okrug, when the cultural and sports festival "Zunai naadan" was held.

The comparison of two attractions

Conclusion:

It was really interesting to study the history of these attractions and compare them. So and this is what happened: Aginskoe Ferris wheel is younger than London for 7 years. The London Eye is 5 times higher than ours. One turn of London Eye is five times longer than ours. The number of seats on Eye London is ten times bigger than on Aginskoe wheel. During a trip to the attraction in London, you can eat in a cafe right on the wheel, or go in to the Internet without living it. We do not have such facilities on Aginskoe Ferris wheel.

Of course, in the future I would like to visit London and ride this biggest wheel in Europe. I also believe that our town is very beautiful and I advise everyone to look at it from a height of 30 meters and enjoy the wonderful view of the native town.

This work is devoted to the study and comparison of the history of Ferris wheels in London and my native town Aginskoe. The London Eye is known as the Millennium Wheel, located on London’s Southbank. It is one of the biggest observation wheel and most popular paid tourist attraction in Europe.
