Introduction I have always been interested in the history of different countries. Studying the history of Great Britain, I decided to learn about one of the most important attributes of this country - about its monetary system. I decided to compare the symbolism of two well-known countries - the United States and Great Britain in English, and understand how they are different and similar. This work is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of monetary systems of the United States and Great Britain. I chose this topic, because the relevance of the topic is obvious and requires research.

Tasks To achieve this aim and prove this hypothesis, it is necessary to solve the following problems: 1. Read and translate information about the US and UK currency into English; 2. Identify similar and distinct features; 3. Conduct a comparison and make a conclusion.

The History The system of money exchange was based on trade relations. Since there was no money in ancient times, people simply exchanged goods, calling it barter. The first metal coins were developed as a necessity in the case of barter. They were mostly made of gold, copper or silver. These metals were relatively rare, so their price was quite high.

Paper money were less durable than metal ones. It was easier to produce and handle coins.

Taller "comes from the word" Joachimstaler ", the name of the coin of the 16th century. It was minted near the silver mine in Joachimsthal , on the territory of modern Czechia . " Joachimsthal " means " Dol (valley) of Joachim". Soon. " Joachimsthaler " was reduced to " thaler ", and the Danes altered this word to " daler ". The British converted it into a more consonant name "dollar".

Pound sterling The history of the British pound begins with the Anglo-Saxons. During the reign of King Mercia Ioffe , a penny was introduced, similar to the denarius used before in the Roman Empire and all the subordinate lands. Then the measure of weight was a pound established by Charles the Great, in which 240 pennies could fit.

A common element of design banknotes of all denominations is the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (as a watermark made). On the back of the banknote is 5 pounds 135 x 70 mm on the right side of the portrait of Elizabeth Fry, on the left - she is reading a book in Newgate prison in London. The colors are blue, brown and yellow.

Symbols of coins and banknotes of the USA and Great Britain have different and similar features. 2. The history of the origin of the symbols and denominations are deep related. 3. The images are different: portraits of presidents on the US banknotes and the image of the Queen on the British banknotes.
