Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin April 12, 1961 for the first time in the history of mankind Yuri Gagarin made a flight into space on the spacecraft Vostok. Gagarin spent in space 1 hour 48 min and returned safely to the Earth. For this feat Yuri Gagarin was awarded with title Hero Of The Soviet Union. The day of flight into space was declared as a state holiday – Cosmonautics Day.

Yuri Gagarin was born on March 9, 1934. in the city of Gzhatsk, Smolensk region. His mother, Anna Timofeevna, and his father, Alexei Ivanovich, was an ordinary rural workers from the village of Klushino of Gzhatsk district. The parents brought up a hardworking and sympathetic person in the boy.

September 1, 1941 the boy went to school, but on October 12 the village was occupied by the Germans and his studies were interrupted.
