The Impact on the British Empire Before World War One, Britain was the world’s economic superpower. However, it wasn’t ready for the economic impact war would have. When war erupted in the summer of 1914, Britain faced market panic and a massive financial crisis. The total cost of WWI for Britain amounted to £3,451,000,000 (1914-1918) Although Britain was ultimately victorious, the key part of its economy, Foreign Trade, had been badly damaged. Colonies had built up their own industries and were no longer reliant on Britain. As a result, in 1920 -1921, Britain experienced the deepest recession in its history. Ultimately, the major result of WWI for the British Empire was the beginning of the decline and fall of the British Empire.

Conclusion WWI was one of the deadliest conflicts in the history of mankind. It brought about major political changes around the world. WWI saw new technique of warfare and employed the latest developments of technology which caused even more casualties. World War One was a significant moment in the decline of Britain as a world power. By the mid-20th century the United States had replaced Britain as the leading global economic power. The war years affected everybody. World War’s lessons should never be forget.
