Taj mahal The Taj Mahal is in Agra, India. It is one of the Eight Wonders of the Modern World. The palace is made of white marble and precious stones. In the sunshine, the marble shines with different colours , like pink, yellow and grey. There is a main dome in the centre that looks like a large pearl and there are four minarets at each corner. Inside, there are two floors each with eight rooms. Outside, there is a very beautiful garden with four pools. The Taj Mahal is a fantastic building.

Taj Mahal - mausoleum - mosque , located in Agra (India ). Built on the orders of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal , who died in childbirth (later was buried here himself Shah Jahan ).

The building began to build around in 1632 and completed in 1653 , worked more than 20 thousand artisans and craftsmen from all over the empire. Inside the mausoleum are two tombs - the Shah and his wife .

The walls are made of polished semitransparent marble (brought to the construction for 300 km) with gems. Turquoise, agate, malachite, carnelian and other stones were used. Marble has such feature that at bright daylight it looks white, at the dawn pink, and at moonlit night — silver.

During the year, the Taj Mahal visits from 3 to 5 million visitors, of which more than 200 000 are from abroad.

Recently, within the walls of the Taj Mahal were found cracked . According to scientists , the appearance of cracks may be due to the silting up of the nearby Yamuna River.

In 1983, the Taj Mahal was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site , " the pearl of Muslim art in India and one of the recognized masterpieces of heritage , which is admired all over the world ."
