Inventions that shook the world

Throughout history, there are many inventions appeared in America. One of the big inventions is the internet. Since the computer invented, there aren’t so many ways people can do about the computer. Most of people didn’t even have one, only the big businesses and the military have them. The invention of the Internet changed people’s point of view of using computers.

So, who invented the Internet?

The simple answer to this question is: Tim Berners-Lee.

Berners-Lee was a computer programmer at the European Center for Particle Research. Berners-Lee is credited with inventing “links”. His idea of links was to create a system that would contain the  information about the location of a file with just a piece of text, so that just by clicking a link that user could access that file.

Berners-Lee called this link system the World Wide Web, or WWW. He also invented the “http://” format and invented HTML, the first programming language for the Internet. Berners-Lee finalized this system in 1991. Many people contributed to the invention of what we call the Internet, and he was a big part of the expansion of the Internet.

Nowadays internet has become very popular all over the world. Despite the fact it is an invention of the twentieth century all the people around the world use it. Just like every other popular invention, the internet has its own pros and cons.

The internet provides us with all the information we need and plays a major role in our lives every day. Not only does the internet allow us to search for things but by typing a certain word in a search engine you can discover its meaning or find a picture of it. Another popular use of the internet is for shopping online. Of course, there is a risk not to receive the exact item you have purchased but in sites like Ebay and Amazon it is guaranteed that if you don’t receive what you have ordered you will be given your money back. Lots of the teenagers use internet for chatting with their friends and making video phone calls. It is also common that people exchange files and download music and movies, which on the other hand has negative effect for the companies that produce them.

Many people stand against the use of internet because according to them despite all the information it provides us with, the internet contains viruses and sends spam letters. When making the internet accessible to everyone it also meant that some people will abuse with that privilege and try to hack other computers. Another drawback of the internet is the language barrier. Even if you search for something particular, you may not find results in your own language because the main sources of information are the sites which are written in English. As for me, this isn’t such a pitfall because just like the internet English has also become very popular and many people speak it.

However, the internet is a great source of information and despite the fact that people reckon its popularity will only last for a few more years and it will be replaced by a new cutting-edge technology I would personally say that for now we all rely on the information it gives us and for those who do not agree with that fact I can recommend them using the good old libraries.
