I would like to tell you about my great-grandfather. His name is Pozdnyakov Vladimir. He was born on the 15 th of February 1918 in the town of Michyurinsk in Tambov Region. In 1939 he served as a midshipman on the Baltic Sea. In 1941 the Great Patriotic War began. My great-grandfather protected our homeland on the Leningrad front.

Once the ship he was on set off on a mission. It was bombed and the ship got a big hole. Many sailors sank. My great-grandfather was luckily thrown ashore by the blast wave. After that Vladimir fought the Nazis in the Marine Corps in Kronstadt . He was wounded and was in hospital. But when he felt better he went to the front again. It was a very hard time for our country. Vladimir had to overcome many difficulties. He was a defender of the blockade of Leningrad.

Vladimir was demobilized in 1946. He returned home with medals: A Medal for Military Merit A Medal for Defence of Leningrad A Medal for the Victory over Germany. He was awarded jubilee medals to the anniversaries of Victory Day.

Every year we celebrate Victory Day. We remember and love our great-grandfather. We say words of gratitude to our veterans.
