Works Milne’s plays were a success with audience and critics. In a short time Milne was "one of the most successful and well-known playwrights in England." However, the success of his children's books overshadowed all other accomplishments, and much to Milne’s dismay he was thought to be a children's writer. According to P. Connolly , the works of Milne for children were similar to Frankenstein, the creature possessed the Creator: the audience demanded new books in this genre, and other critics have considered the work of Milne in the context of his children's books. At the end of his life the circulation of Milne’s children's books was 7 million copies, and his books for adults were no longer reprinted.
